Leather Division

In 1997 WCL took over Oxtan NZ Ltd, a Whakatane based crust leather manufacturer. The leather operation is run as a separate division and takes quality wet/blue hides and calf skins from the tannery through to crust/finished leather.

Crust leathers offered by Wallace Leather range from lightweight fine grain fashion leather made from calf skin and light heifer through medium weight casual leathers to heavy oily pull up leather and durable waterproof leathers for casual, industrial and outdoor footwear.

Wallace Leather has invested in state of the art equipment for upholstery production utilising low temperature drying to ensure a softer and consistent uniform product.

In November 2002 WCL took over a finishing upholstery operation in Wanganui which enabled us to take crust upholstery through to a variety of finished upholstery products from a diverse range of raw material ranging from a low grade hide to a premium grade hide.

In January 2005, to enable WCL to increase production and ensure the highest quality of finished upholstery leather is supplied to its customers, the operation was moved from Wanganui to a new “state of the art” purpose built building on its Waitoa site.
